Salpingography<\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Salpingography <\/strong>is a valuable diagnostic tool whose main purpose is to investigate <\/strong>infertility <\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>by checking the patency of the fallopian tubes (Tubal Patency Test). It is a test that helps visualize the uterus and the fallopian tubes. Thus, your doctor can identify any obstructions or inherent problems in these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salpingography, or hysterosalpingography, is performed via an X-ray machine. Your doctor will advance a special catheter to your cervix to infuse a contrast agent<\/strong>. In this way, your doctor will be able to track and trace the course of the contrast agent on a radiology monitor. The test takes about 30 minutes. The contrast agent moves from the uterus towards the fallopian tubes and its course is projected on a radiology monitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salpingography can detect the obstruction <\/strong>of the fallopian tubes <\/strong> that is caused by adhesions, inflammations, and tumors and prevents fertilization. Also, it can identify any anatomical defect <\/strong>of the uterus that may be responsible for miscarriages or implant failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultrasound salpingography<\/strong><\/strong>Ultrasound salpingography <\/strong>is based on the principles of classic salpingography but, instead of a contrast agent being injected to your vein, doctors use a special gel<\/strong>, which is hypoallergenic. In addition to its diagnostic role, it can also have a therapeutic character<\/strong>, as it has a mild obstructive action. The test does not require any special preparation or taking antibiotics or pain killers. Unlike classic salpingography, it does not need to be performed on a specific day of your menstruation cycle, although it is advisable to have it before ovulation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
